Countering Violent Extremist use of the Internet
The Internet and social media are factors enabling violent extremist organizations (VEOs) in Central Asia. They have been identified as a channel of recruitment – including for foreign fighters for the conflict in Syria and Iraq. But what is the scale, scope, and impact of the Internet on the recruitment of extremists into VEO? How effective is the Internet as a tool of recruitment, propaganda, and control in the hands of banned extremist groups in Central Asia?
